A concert may seem unlikely at this point but Pink Floyd has reunited for Gaza, writes Alice Sharma
The English legendary rock band Pink Floyd may not reunite for music, but when it comes to a cause they are seen standing together. The three surviving band members of the legendary band, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Roger Waters have come together to offerĀ their support to the Womenās Boat to Gaza, that sailed from Barcelona to Gaza last month, sponsored by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, a group opposed to Israelās āsiege of Gazaā. The Womenās Boat was intercepted by the Israeli navy last week, and the crew arrested.
The Womenās Boat to Gaza is part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. It contains 13 women, including the 1976 Nobel peace laureate from Northern Ireland, Mairea Maguire. On Pink Floydās Facebook page, the band released the following statement: āāPink Floyd reunites to stand with the Women of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla.ā David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Roger Waters stand united in support of the Women of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, and deplore their illegal arrest and detention in international waters by the Israeli Defense Force.ā
According to the French news agency (AFP) all but one of the 13 activists were deported back on Friday.
Waters since the inception of this protest has been very clear about his stance on Israeli government and has called for a cultural boycott of the country. He shared this statement on his twitter handle and also shared a video on his Facebook page expressing his support for the women of Flotilla.
It now remains to be seen whether the band will consider reuniting on music grounds and performing live in Palestinian to show their support. Their last performance was 11 years ago at Live8
in London.
